could i have some tips for removing and replacing the shifter on an automatic?

My shifter broke and I have removed thebroken one. I am going to a junkyard tomorrow to take one out and I would love some pointers. Thanks

just remove the shift pin on the shift bowl with a punch knocking it from the bottom.then just pull it out
