loud ticking when down shifting or accelerating but stops when i push in the clutch

when accelerating and downshifting i hear this loud ticking noise coming from under the truck. when i push in the clutch the ticking goes away. what would cause this to happen?

throwout bearing in the clutch is failing. get it checked to verify.
