I have a 2000 chevy monte carlo and the coolant level started to get hot but only when I am driving, when we are stopped or idle it cools down until it starts moving again?

What does the temp gage show? It would come closer to overheating at idle rather than highway speed. You could have a gasket problem? Don't have enough info.

Is the coolant overflowing?
