My 2000 chevy malibu shakes only when in gear but stops once I start driving.I think its my thermosate. Any ideas please help

Clean throttle-body and check iac/idle air control. Any applicable trouble codes? Some of the national brand autostores used to check codes for free. How long since a tune-up?

A vacuum leak may be more noticeable at idle.
