Overheating

2000 sls caddy temp guage rises start to lose heat then temp goes down heat comes back then fine till the next episode?Weird changed burp tank cap, thermostat and have a new water pump but it seems to circulate dont know iif a simple flush would do it or what?

Before I spent too much money, I would have the system block tested for the presence of combustion gases in the cooling system. If it is losing heat, that could indicate a low coolant level, but you should also have a low coolant message. That is if the sensor is plugged in and functional. If the coolant level is low, or it is using coolant, rule out external leaks as well.
