Generator (GEN)

Removal

Preparations

* Disconnect the battery negative lead.
* Detach the pipe from the control module box.
* Remove the auxiliaries belt according to Repacing the Auxiliaries Belt/Belt Tensioner, refer to Engine, Cooling and Exhaust - Engine - Drive Belts, mounts, Brackets and Accessories - Drive Belt - Service and Repair - Procedures. See: Engine, Cooling and Exhaust Engine Drive Belt Service and Repair
* Remove power steering pump and place it on top the engine.
* To remove power steering pump refer to Steering and Suspension - Steering - Power Steering - Power Steering Pump - Service and Repair - Procedures See: Steering and Suspension Steering Power Steering Pump Service and Repair

Without A/C

* Remove the upper screw from the upper mounting
* Remove the lower screws
* Disconnect the warning lamp positive lead and the connector from the generator (GEN)
* Pull the generator (GEN) upwards/away

With A/C

* Remove the upper screw
* Remove the screws common to the generator (GEN) and compressor; the lower screws on the generator (GEN) and the upper screws on the compressor
* Raise car
* Slacken off the lower screws for the compressor (so that there is some clearance)
* Remove air baffle
* Lower car Disconnect the warning lamp positive lead and the connector from the generator (GEN)

Pull the generator (GEN) upwards/away

Installation

Without A/C

* Position the generator (GEN)
* Connect the warning lamp positive lead and connector
* Position the generator (GEN) and install the upper screw loosely
* Install the lower screws. Ensure the generator (GEN) is correctly positioned before tightening. Tightening torque 25 Nm (18 ft lb)
* Remove the screw and nut that run through the upper mounting. Tightening torque 25 Nm (18 ft lb)

With A/C

* Position the generator (GEN)
* Connect the warning lamp positive lead and connector
* Position the generator (GEN) and install the upper screw loosely
* Install the screws common to the generator (GEN) and compressor; the lower screws on the generator (GEN) and the upper screws on the compressor loosely
* Raise car
* Tighten the lower screws for the compressor
* Install air baffle
* Install the screws common to the generator (GEN) and compressor. Tightening torque 25 Nm (18 ft lb)
* Remove the screw and nut that run through the upper mounting. Tightening torque 25 Nm (18 ft lb)

Carry out the remaining operations in reverse order.
