I have heard both arguments re the use of 5W or 10W and am asking all of you so I can decide.I have a 99 saturn SL2 115K and it's a working car- it runs about 1K mi/wk 50% highway and 50% city and I want to keep it going for quite some time-which oil would you recommend and why? Thanks so much!

The last couple oil changes, I was told it was down a qt (3000 mi)but this last one I had done yesterday, it was down 4 qts but I'm thinking it was bcuz of the rough winter weather the last couple wks-alot of tire spinning, lack traction up hills, etc. I live in Denver so the climate wouldn't be considered cold.

If you were 4qts low that means you were out of oil the engine only holds 4 qts. The weather and your driving shouldn't caused that much oil consuption. Saturn says 1qt per 2,000 mile's of oil usage is normal that is way too much. Your engine has had it if it use's that much. You can try usuing a 10w 30w organic oil with a lucas oil stablizer the sythetic one since it cold up by you see how that slows the oil burn. Also try replacing your pcv if it's all gummed up. Otherwise your engine is shot.
