Altima Power Steering

If the battery on a 1999 Nissan Altima is going out would that affect the power steering? Or do I have two seperate problems.

If the problem is the drive belt to the alternator which is causing the battery to drain than that would also cause no power steering, otherwise no a low battery wouldn't effect the hydraulic power steering system.
