1999 Mercury Topaz Car Issues NEED ANSWERS ASAP

Drove my car to the mall today and home with no problems driving wise. As soon as I got almost home it started putting and would rev really high but wouldnt go anywhere. When I turned the car off and went to turn it back on it does nothing but ticks. Not leaking anything anywhere and all its fluids are full. Is this a battery issue? Starter?

The first thing I would have checked is the battery. Remove it and take it to a nationally recognized parts store and have them load test it to see if it will hold a charge.

Let me know what you find.
