Wouldn't start, changed fuel filter, started fine for about 2 weeks. Now don't want to start again. Tap on the air control valve, and it starts. Is it the air control valve or something else? If it is air control valve, how much does that cost? Isn't that a dealer item?
Do you
have the same problem?

Its an idle air control valve and no it is not a dealer item you can get it at any parts store, if you tapped on it and it started working that's a pretty good sign that u figured it out since its just an electric motor. They are about $50 online, maybe a little more expensive if you go into a parts store

SOUNDS LIKE MY EXPERIENCE WITH MY WIFE'S ESCAPE

diyautoelectric.......HOWDY-HOWDY! NICE TO SEE SOMEONE ELSE HELPIN' OUT.......NOT TRYING TO BUTT IN, JUST ATTEMPTING TO PROVIDE SOME REASSURANCE!..........BUT MAINLY 'CAUSE A JEEP CJ AIN'T BROKE IN QUITE SOME TIME, I'M GETTING BORED

I'M MORE OF A JEEP/ OLD FORD CARBURETED KINDA GUY, THESE ARE MOSTLY WHAT I TINKER WITH....BUT I'VE BEEN CATCHING ON TO SOME OF THE NEWER STUFF, AS I "HAVE TO" DEAL WITH IT FOR FAMILY AND FRIENDS

HERE'S THE LINK ON THE ESCAPE EXPERIENCE

AS FAR AS NEEDING ONE......THIS ROUTE MAY GET IT CHEAPER AND HAVE IT IN YOUR HANDS WITHIN AN HOUR.......THAT IS, IF "ADVANCE AUTO PARTS" IS A LOCAL STORE

......OR MAYBE YOU CAN MAKE THIS "METHOD" WORK SIMILAR FOR A DIFFERENT STORE........FOR ANYTHING, NOT JUST AUTO PARTS.........YOU CAN MAKE "DRY RUNS" THRU THE CHECK OUT TO SEE IF THE PROMO CODES ARE STILL VALID.......THEY DO NOT WORK ON OILS OR ITEMS ON SALE

Put car in the shop yesterday. My mom paid for it. They said it was the fuel pump and they changed it for 340 dollars. Ran fine last night. Got in the car this morning and it wouldn't start again. Had to walk to work. Got in my work vehicle and took the keys back to them and told them what happened. They are looking at it now. Car had 5 gallons of gas in it but they said when they put more gas in it started. Any ideas? My fuel gage has always been right. I know cuz I've ran it down to 1-2 gallons before.

RECENTLY DEALT WITH A JEEP CJ. LIKE YESTERDAY

DROPPED THE TANK AND REMOVED THE FUEL SENDING UNIT/ PICK UP TUBE

THE SOCK/ FILTER (PLASTIC CYLINDER W/ SCREEN) ON END OF THE PICK UP TUBE WAS STILL ATTACHED. BUT NOT PUSHED UP TIGHT, ONTO THE METAL TUBE. AT ABOUT 1/2 A TANK. IT STARTED SUCKING AIR

Finally got the car back yesterday. They said they put another fuel pump in, replaced fuel regulator, reset some things the computer said to and it was still giving starting problems. They were frustrated I was frustrated. I finally asked God to tell the mechanic what was wrong with my car because I need it back and he couldn't figure it out on his own. The next day after prayer, the guy found a wire not giving good connection to the battery I think he said. Anyway although it starts right up now they are not confident about it and said for me to drive it a few days and bring back if it gives more problems. I knew it was something simple and although I really question that the fuel pump needed changing in the first place, since it is a 99 sure it doesn't hurt to have a new one on there.
Thanks for the responses.

I don't understand what is going on with my car. The shop will get it to start, give it back to me, and the first day it will start fine. The next day it won't start. I have given the car back to the shop several times and the same thing happens each time. The guy asked if I had another key to the car, but I don't the car only came with one key. Any ideas on why it will start one day fine but not the next? This is driving me crazy and I need my car back.
