1999 Kia Sportage Rear Tailgate/Lift

I have only had my 99 KIA for about 2 months but haven't had this problem before. I pulled the release handle on the rear tailgate (there is a spare tire mounted there) but I can't get it to work. Usually it will release something so that I can pull the spare tire mechanism forward and unlock the rear tailgate/door and lift it up. I think there is a magnetic device which holds the tire onto the door but I can't get it to release. I don't know what to do.

Have a local guy look at this we don't have any thing to show picture wise to explain it.

I had my mechanic look at my KIA. The rear wiper doesn't work either and he replaced a motor there. He thinks it is something electrical but doesn't know what's wrong. Is there some type of specialist mechanic that I should have look at it? Do you have an answer that you can just explain to me without pictures? I have the auto repair manual if that's any help. Thank you.

Check the ground for wipers at lh kick panel, see if power is going to wiper or switch, I think you might try a different mechanic, he should be able to fix this.
