1999 Honda Passport Loud noise

I just bought this Honda passport. It has a rattling noise coming from the front engine. When I first start the car, the noise is louder. After I drive for like half mile, the noise disappear for the rest of the trip. Also my gas light is on as well. What could be the problem?

With the car cold, open the hood and reach your hand down into the engine compartment and bang around on metal parts to see if that's what's rattling. If not it could be hydraulic lifters in the car could need oil or need an oil change.
