My 1999 escort misses when frist started up but it goes away. But I smell antafreeze I looked for a leak but I don"t see anything. Antafreeze goes down in the holding tank I put some in there about one a month. It idels rough also I have put new pcv value on it I put new plugs and wires new coil has not helped. It runs fine going down the highway. Some times it will run fine for a few days then it starts running bad again. What do you think it is.

I had same problem, at start the car ran rough and engine code said misfire on one cylinder. Happened at start up and went away after a few minutes till finally one day engine blew.
Turned out it was a valve seat which was displaced. Fairly common problem amongst escorts. Get head taken off and have this reseated asap before valve seat breaks and goes thru the engine
