I just changed the transmission in my sons neon. Same transmission only 1 year older (1998). When I started the car to check the fluid I noticed the service light was on. I run the codes and found that the stop/nuetral switch was bad. I replaced the switch and the light is still on. I have already removed the battery term. For about a half an hour and still no luck. What else has to be done?

If it is the same code, did you replace the switch with the correct model year part?

I replaced it with a switch for a 99. I didnt think there was a difference. Do I need to get one for a 98? Because, the reverse lights come on now and they didnt before I changed the switch.

God knows if they are the same. The switch may look the same but work differently. If the trans is a 98, that is what I would get and then pray the computer recognizes it.

I miss the old days.
