Leaky valves

I have been told that I have leaky valves in my '98 Chrysler Town & Country Van. No operational problems yet. What are the valves & what do they leak

There's valves in the engine, oiling system, brakes, transmission, exhaust gas recirculation, fuel supply system, and air conditioning. Pick one. Also, if there are no apparent problems that you observed, what led someone to give this diagnosis?
