Do you have a check engine light? Could be pinging due to the EGR valve and type of fuel being used-overly advanced ignition timing

The clattering stop's when truck in nuetral or revers or park. clatters only going forward.

Check the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge to rule out low oil pressure
