Tried starting Prism today and the starter won't quit engaging. So left it in neutral and took off the positive battery cable. What could cause this problem?

A bad starter seloniod or a bad ingition switch on the column. Does the key cyl. Feel the same whyll starting?Youll need a test light to do some quick checks. Remove the brown or purple on the starter seloniod. Then u can hook the battery back up. Test the wire with the test light it should be lite if the starter keeps running. If its not lite turn the key to start and the test light should light. Then go off when you release it. Replace the starter. If power just stays on. Then remove the dash panels to gain axcess to the ingition switch on the steering column. The switch will be mounted on the top of the column. Youll see the the same colored wire you removed from the starter. Check the voltage their at the ing. Switch. If it stays on when u cycle the key replace the ingition switch. Ty you for using 2carpros
