Where is the thermostat on a 1999 chev cav 2.2 ltr?

My manual shows it under the engine but researching and general knowledge makes me think its more like front of engine under the alternator. Can you please clarify this for me?

Follow the lower radiator hose from the radiator towards the engine. On the 2.2L engine models, remove the two mounting bolts securing the radiator hose to the inlet manifold using a ratchet and socket; separate the hose and remove the thermostat
