I have a 1999 chevy cavalier and the battery light is on and the car when you turn it on revs like the throttle is stuck and the temp gauage goes from cold to overheating in like 3 seconds......What might be the cause of this?

Seems to be an electrical control or ground circuit fault. If the Check engine light is indicating, get a scan done to retrieve for trouble codes.

Have the alternator charging checked as well.
