The car has developed a steering freeplay of about sixty degrees. L took it to the mechanic who checked the suspension and did not find a fault. What could be the probable reason? Could the problem be in the steering box itself?

Did you have the steering loose loose for something else? Did the "mechanic" notice the steering wheel off 60 degrees?

The steering was never loosened for something else, the problem is felt more when driving and the mechanic did not take it for a test drive. He just checked it from the ramp although he confirmed that there was abit of free play.
