Transmission can't shift from 1-4 gear only in reverse. what is the symptoms of defective upper shift solenoid?

Although I am not sure of the symptoms you are seeking, call the dealership and have them run your vin #. There is a recall on those transmissions and you may be able to have it completely replaced for free.
