Driver Door Lock INOP

I have a 1998 Seat Ibiza. It has central locking. For years the passenger lock did not work because a child stuffed sand and dirt in it. Now the drivers door key lock will not lock or unlock the doors. I have looked at the problem, it seems the mechanism inside is not functioning. Do you have any suggestions as to what I can do to fix it
