Problem with ideal and ECT sensor the engine want to die with cool start up ideals real high then goes below ideal what is the problem for a 1999 saturn SL1 sometimes it smells like gas when starting up. Check engine light comes on sometime

What codes do you have?Do you ever have to hold the gas pedal to the floor to start it?It sound's like a bad ect sensor really common on that car. Also inspect the connector to the ect if it's corroded then you will have to replace it too.
