Car dying

I have a 1998 grand am gt it will start and run and drive about a half a mile then it will die then I have to wait 3 or 4 minutes and it will start and go about another half a mile and die and it keeps doing the same thing does anyone know what might be causing it

What is the engine size? When the problem occurs, if it cranks good but won't start, have a helper crank it, while you check for spark at the plugs. If you have spark everywhere, check fuel pressure. Be careful about spraying gas all over a hot engine. Any applicable trouble codes? Could be electrical issue, somewhere. Could be intermittent rpm signal, hard to tell without testing. If everything under the hood is hot, wear gloves.
