98 plymouth voyager 3.0 engine. Has a knocking noise in engine that at best guess is around the alternator area. Only hear it when idling and not during acceleration. No loss of power and engine shifts normally. Runs at normal temperature. What is your best diagnoses of problem?

Knocking /ticking/tapping, hard to tell what a sound is cause we all have different ideas about sounds. Could be lifter/rocker or harmonic balancer?

Hi guys. If it goes away when you increase engine speed, suspect a hydraulic lash adjuster in the tip of one of the rocker arms. A pin hole can wear in the bottom of it and lets the pressurized oil leak out. I have a 3.0L in my '88 Grand Caravan with over 380,000 miles. It has been doing this for the last 100,000 miles. Let's people in the parking lots know I'm coming!
