Car won't start

My 1998 Bravada has been having issues starting. Every couple of weeks I will go out and it will be dead, turn the key and not a sound comes from the engine. We would have the battery charged and it would work fine for a little while and then die again. We replaced the battery a week ago and it just died again. The battery charge gauge inside the car always stays a fraction above the midline (around 13). What are the likely causes? Also, with the battery dead the car won't shift out of park. Is this for lack of trying or is it something intentional with the car?

Alternator problem or there's a short circuit or something is still On and draining the battery overnite -If the battery is weak the shiftlock control solenoid won't power up-= therefore you can't get out of park-

Is there any way to bypass the shiftlock control solenoid so that the vehicle will go into neutral without battery power? My bravada is parked under a storage cabinet so that I can't get the hood open.
