if I put in air filter the engine chokes

its a 1998 nissan frontier 2wd with 2.4 when you install the air filter the truck goes to choking down put a mass air flow and 2 diff. air filters thanks for any help

Check to make sure there are no air restrictions in the air duct. Something is stopping the air to the engine.

yea i checked that but as soon as you put the air filter on before you put the housing on it go to strudding. i dont know thanks

Do you mean without the air filter, the engine runs smoothly?

The change in air flow should be minimal. That is really odd. Are you sure the MAF is getting power?
