Fuel consumption

What needs to be checked if the consumption of my car is considerably higher than normal. I really need to increase on milage per liter because it is really expensive. Please help me and make ny life easier and better. Thanks.

I believe that the oil used can have a impact om fuel consumption ie: the appropriate oil for the 1.5 demio is a w5-20 and the manual says to use this type. However here in the uk most people seem to use the w5-30 a thicker oil (the 30 rating] but at the expense of using more fuel to burn off? So maybe the w5-20 a thinner oil would save money and fuel.
