1998 cherokee laredo 6 cyl, 130K. Had for 2 yrs, engine strong, decided to check plugs anyway-worn to nubs. Replaced plugs, cap, rotor, wires. Engine started right up and ran smoothly-but-NO POWER ON HILLS OR ACCELERATING ON FREEWAY!Big bad immediate difference! Replaced with a second set of everything but not wires-no difference. When forced to accelerate, it shifts down very oddly. Gas mileage unchanged, no misfiring symptoms, idles normally. Note: car has always had a cat conv. Rattle, but always passes emissions. Also, distributor will only rotate a max of 1/8" with bolt loosened. We were very careful noting #1 wire into distributor. Still, possible we screwed up? Ideas?

If it ran ok before then check for a clogged converter and fuel pressure. If it has 15' of vacuum or below suspect a cloggedconverter. If you pulled the distributor out then there is a certain way to align it andit may be misaligned. But recheckyour dist to make sureyou didn't put the plug wires in one hole off.
