I have an 1998 Infiniti Q45. Today, as I was getting off the highway onto an exit ramp my car started to jerk. I had sloweddown to 40 mph and everything was fine. But as soon as I hit the accelerator and went over 40mph, it started to jerk again and wouldn't accelerate past 40. If I kept a slow and steady pace on the pedal then I could ease past 40mph. I pulled into the grocery store parking lot and stopped at the stop sign before entering the lot. When I made a complete stop, my car just turned off completely. I turned it back on and it started, but I had to rev the engine and keep it going. I drove back to my house which was literally 4 tenths of a mile away and as soon as I pull into my subdivision I notice smoke coming from my hood. I stopped the car in my driveway and have left there. After lifting the hood I notice that something had exploded/burst in there and splattered all over the inside. It came from the front of the car. I couldn't make out the liquid, but it may have been oil. I had unscrewed the oil cap and there was smoke coming out of there. What is the problem?

I couldn't really tell what it was, as it had no distinct smell. It was clear and had the texture of oil. It felt like oil. From the way it splattered, it blew from the front of the car. It left a pattern like sunrays. What other info do U need? No service engine soon lights had come on, nor have they been on. I had heard some rattling right before I had started to see smoke. It came from underneath the car.

The car runs and drives. I started it up this morning. I haven't checked fluid levels. The fluid was clear and did not have a distinct smell. It had a smooth texture to it. I just recently had my oil changed about 1,000 miles ago. I just sent the car to the shop, so they will let me know what it is. I just want them to give me an honest and accurate diagnosis of the problem.

They said I have a cracked radiator. They will fix it, but they will see if I need something else taken care of because the jerking action that happened before the smoking concerned them. They said that they would have to fix the radiator before they could assess if I may need spark plugs, or if something is wrong with the gasket/head?

Had a feeling it was coolant made the most sense as far as replacing the radiator to further diagnose I would say yes. They need to run it to do a chemical block test to check for a head/head gasket issue. They way it lost power is what scares me. They could pull some plugs to see if there is coolant in the spark plug holes.
