1998 GMC Yukon grumbling noise

1998 GMC Yukon mileage: 117,000. I have a problem with my Yukon, it sounds like the transmission is going out. My friend said had had the same problem and it was a bad alternator. Could this be? Do alternators make this grumbling noise when going out?

Yes, we just had a GMC truck come in for that same problem. The easiest way to see if it is your alternator is to remove the drive belt them start it for a moment, did the noise go away? If yes, replace alternator.
