I have recently changed my transmission fluid. I have heard conflicting answers on how to check transmission fluid. Some say have to have engine running, others say engined needs to be turn off and hot to get proper reading on dip stick. Which way is needed for a 1998 gmc jimmy. Thanks in advance.

Start it up take it for a 10min ride -comeback leave the engine running -then check fluid level-if low fill it while engine is running till its level to full mark
