1998 Ford Escort car won't run

Drove my car yesterday everything was fine. This morning I try to turn It on it makes a chugging noise I pump on the gas it comes on along with a rattling noise then the engine cuts off when I let go of the gas. What could this issue be? Does anyone else have this problem or know something about it? Please help

If the check engine light has come on, and it should, have the computer scanned to identify trouble codes. Most parts stores will do it for free. If there is no light, check the timing belt to make sure it didn't skip a tooth.
