I have a 98 ford contour v6 with ac. The battery light came on, then drained the battery. I got it going again with a fresh charged battery, took it to the parts store so that they could test the alternator. Test showed it was bad, so I replaced the alternator. But after doing so the light is still on and yes it drains the battery after about 40 mlies of driving.

The alternator is new & the voltage regulator is new(on the alternator), I also replaced the belt.

I was thinking to change the tensioner? Is there anything else that it could be? Any other test I could perform?

Check for battery voltage on the yellow wire in the plug for the regulator. If it is missing, look for a popped 15 amp fuse. Check for full battery voltage on the fat output wire. If it is missing, look for a blown very large fuse bolted into the fuse box under the hood.
