WHAT COULD CAUSE THE FRONT BRAKE CALIPER TO RUB ON THE RIM?

I started hearing a grinding sound while driving as I was removing the tire I saw that the rim had a grove around the inside upon futher inspection I saw the caliper also had scrape marks on it every thing looks to be in its proper place
Would be helpful to have some punctuation in that huge sentence, otherwise it can be read three different ways.
I get the idea of the grooves. Suspect a worn lower ball joint allowing the bottom of the wheel to move sideways. Also look for a caliper mounting pin that fell out. That will allow the caliper to lift up. It depends where the groove is on the wheel. If the caliper lifts, it will be closer to the center of the wheel. With a worn ball joint, the scrape will be near the side of the caliper.
