After replacing the starter, the engine starts but does not stay running and half of the lights are not working?

The starter went out in the car recently. My husband replaced the starter and now the car will start but then immediately shuts off and half the lights don't work.

It sounds like one of the fusible links is not connected to the starter main power lug. Here is a generic guide to help you step by step with instructions in the diagrams below to show you how on your car:

Please double check for any left over wires, this will be the problem. Check out the images (below). Please let us know how it goes

My husband has unhooked them all and reconnected them and it hasn't helped.

We need to check the fusible link condition, use this guide to test for power on the wire side of the fusible link:

These fusible links supply main power to the car.
