When I switch from cold to warm on my temperature control it does not switch over right away it takes awhile sometimes it changes over in a few minutes and sometimes a day or two

This can be a vacuum or electrical problem depending on your system. There are actuators on your hvac unit that control heat as well as where it goes ( defrost, vent, floor heat) i'm sending a generic pic along of the actuators. They are either not getting good vacuum which could be a leak at control unit or not getting good vacuum from engine or the electrical isn't working correctly. Check your fuses and relay.
