Hi I have talked to Roy on here about our 1998 Z28 Chevy Camaro. I told him that I took it to a shop and I and the shop have agreed it was a valve lifter because it ticks when you drive. We are planning to put a new motor in it at the end of July. The lifter was too much to replace and for another 1000 we get a new motor. I tried seafoam in the crankcase that did not work at all. I also took the brake booster hose off and let it suck it down. That did nothing the noise is still the same. My question is I heard you can put ATF in the oil and drive it for 20 miles and it will break down the sludge in the motor and also it may quiet the lifter down. I was told this by a friend that had a shop. He said you usually put no more than 1 quart of ATF in the oil and it may work. He said drive it 20 miles then change the oil and hope for the best. What do you think. I am weary of what could happen. This is the LS1 motor. The 5.7L V8.

Do not do this. It will decrease oil lube and could cause many more issues.

Just drive it till you get the motor. The damage is now done and adding additives that dont work will do nothing.
