Battery light came on

I was getting off the freeway and the battery light and the ABS lights came on now it has to be jump started and will only idle. If I step on gas pedal it dies

Most likely is the alternator is defective and fails to provide a charge to your battery and engine, hence your engine is only running on a battery that is quickly discharging. Until the engine won't fire at all.
