1997 Subaru Impreza break lights staying on

My lights are staying on when. My keys are not in it and now it doesn't want to start like the column is locked but it isn't I need help this is my only way around. So I took the battery cable off and going to try it in the morning any help would be nice to have

Your brake lights are staying on correct? These are the only ones on? Try disconnecting the brake switch above your brake pedal. See if they go out. If so, your switch is either out of adjustment, or it failed.
