1997 Oldsmobile Cutlass Service engine soon light

I finally got my fuel filter changed didn't know I needed an O-ring for it and tell it was already put back together so he put back on the old one but since then my service engine soon light came on what does that mean and would it have anything to do with not changing the O ring when I change the fuel filter?

The Engine Computer detected a problem, set a diagnostic fault code, and turned the Check Engine light on to tell you. Many auto parts stores will read the codes for you for free. Those codes never say to replace parts or that they're bad. They only indicate the circuit or system that needs further diagnosis. The fuel supply system is not monitored so there is most likely some other problem that needs to be diagnosed.
