Hi there I have a 1997 jeep grand cherokee limited v8 with quadratrac 205000. Transmission was sticking when I got it and its getting worse. I serviced the trans and didnt help and there were chucks of metal everywhere. So I figure I will replace it with used since I dont have much money and I have a friend who knows what he is doing with swapping trnsmissions.

The problem I have is I cant seem to get a straight answer on which tranny I have and what I can take it out of. I heard I could use out of a ram or dakota with the 5.2, but the wrecking yard said 1997 grand cherokee only and there are zero in Portland oregon with a v8. So my question is can I use another similar tranny out of a different year grand and maybe change some sensors or do I need to find that one year?

We recommend direct fit parts. If you use a different one, chances are there will be sensor issues causing things not to work properly. Stay with the same year make and model.

Okay so I finally found one its out of a 1997 limited v8 with quadratrac the guy said that it was rebuilt then the owner wrecked it a month later. NOw I have to do my first tranny swap and was wondering if anyone could help me out. I have step by step instructions on how to remove the tranny for a grand cherokee but only 2wd I have no idea what to do with the tranfer case. Do I just un plug connectors and undo to fluid lines and drop it with the tranny and put it on my new one?
