1997 Hyundai Elantra the engine lamp turns on

While driving sometimes. Once I turned the car off the lamp goes off once I turned the car on the lamp is off.

For starters scan the PCM (computer) scanned for codes. If the PCM sees a problem it will store a code that will help in diagnosing the problem, get back with the exact codes.
