I recently changed my oil in my truck. As I was pouring the oil in, from a 5 qt bottle, I noticed that oil began pouring from what appeared to be the rear of the engine. It took app. 3-4 qts before it starting coming out. It cranks and runs, but it skips. What could this be?

Is the drain plug in? Or oil filter in it? You'll have to look o rmaybe it's got a bad main seal.

I immediately checked the plug and oil filter. What is entailed in the rear main seal? What does it take to fix that?

The transmission has to be moved out of the way and the seal pulled out then a new one installed. The flex plate for the trans has to be removed as well. It's kind of a big job. But make sure that oil is n't leaking at top of engine and coming down looking like it's at bottom.

Cold be the china wall at back of intake or at the sides and leaking down. If it's coming from the rear main and it is a lot then there may be something like a bearing gone as well or the seal is heavily damaged.
