How do I replace my fuel filler neck - my tank wont fill?

Open the fuel door and remove the three screws that hold the filler to the bed. Remove the fuel cap. Under the truck, the steel filler goes into a rubber hose then the tank. Remove the clamps and pull the steel filler tube from both the vent and filler tube. You will need to use a large hook scribe to break the seal loose while twisting it.

I have checked the evap canister and it's clear. What's causing me not to be able to put gas in the main tank?

Once this happens it is normally one of a couple things. First is the canister is full as you checked. Next is a vent line on the fill neck that is blocked not allowing the vapor to escape so it backs up the fill neck and shuts the pump off. The most likely is the neck is actually blocked or has an obstruction in it. The last possible cause is there is a check valve I believe in the tank on this vehicle, that could be stuck or blocked.

If it were me, I would just remove the filler tube and check it the tube and see if there is anything blocking it.

Thank you! Problem solved! My truck has duel tanks. When running on the main tank I have no power an no matter how much I press the gas I get nowhere. So I switch to the reserve tank and the truck runs fine. There are no codes. I pumped out the old gas and replaced with new gas. And I still have the same problem. How can I fix it so that my truck runs just as good on the main tank as it does on the reserve tank?

I recently took the box off my truck put a new cab on it and went to put the box back on it, but before I did that I bought a new filler neck because I noticed the other one was bad. When I got it it had the tube that come down the inside of the filler tube which my other one that I took off at did not have that tube on. So I cut it off and I do not think I should have. Now when I go to fill it up at the station or whatever it gushes gas all over. Is that a vent problem or should I get a different filler neck again? What it will go in if I put it in like $0.20 at a time stop for five seconds go another $0.20?

I would remove your new filler neck and check inside for the old inner liner and see if it is causing an obstruction when filling.

Yes, it is a venting issue but first, you need to be sure there is nothing blocking the fuel from going into the tank when filling.

REMOVAL

1. Drain fuel to a level (approximately 3/4 full) below the fuel tank filler connection by using the fuel hose at the fuel pump to fuel tube connection.
2. Detach fuel filler pipe from support bracket and disconnect fuel filler and vent hoses.
3. Loosen clamp attaching filler pipe and disconnect hose from the pipe, pulling the internal fuel tube from tank filler neck.
4. Remove the three retainer screws that attach the filler pipe flange to the body fuel filler housing.
5. Remove fuel filler pipe from vehicle.
6. Remove hose and clamps. Replace all damaged or worn parts.

The vent is on top the tank. The filler neck and hose is clear. Both are new. I wonder if the vent on top of the tank is plugged. It has a rubber line coming off it.

Did you disturb anything on top of the tank? You gave no indication of working on top of the tank.

You did say you cut the line from the filler neck to inside the tank. That is where your issue is located if that is the case.

No I just pulled the box off and pulled the tank out. I put the tank back in with the new filler and the hose. Yes I did cut the hose that wad attached to the filler when I got it. The small hose about a inch around.

The part you did not get out is what concerns me.

When you installed the new neck, that hose may have collapsed and is now a restriction.
