tring to find out if oil pan can come off with out raising the engine explorer 97

if eighth digit in VIN is an "E" than that engine does not use an oil pan in the conventional sense. There is a separate access panel that unbolts from what would be considered the oil pan (which is now known as the ladder frame). If the eighth digit in VIN is an "X" than the motor must be lifted.
