My 97 Dodge Ram 1500 started pinging under acceleration two weeks ago.
I replaced the plugs, wires, coil, dist. Cap and rotor. Recently it has started to bog down when going up hill and downshifting. Today it severely lost power when accelerating and triggered the check engine light. The codes come up as engine misfire, multiple cylinders. At low or little load the truck still runs fine, only under heavy load. All ignition systems check out fine. Am I looking at a fuel pressure problem or possible fuel pump/filter being clogged?

I have a 97 dodge 3/4 ton V10 with very simular problems. It only acts up during a load. Let me know what you find out.

Yep, it sounds like a bad fuel pump or clogged fuel filter. I would just do the fuel pump module because it is all in one anyway. Check out the images (Below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.
