I left for work this morning and got about 2 miles away from home and the car would not get up a hill. Just started popping and backfire in the intake. I have replaced the fuel pump, filter, map sensor, pcv valve, crank sensor. The car has done this for weeks. Then let it sit for 5 minutes and it will start and run fine. Then the next day it will do it again. I had a code of PO171 before I replaced the fuel pump and filter, now no codes and no check engine light. When it does act up the rpm gauge wil be eratic up and down.

Check your cam sensor for ohms, it may have to many and when it heats up a little causes the problem.

Why would it be a cam sensor? Doesn't do it all the time. Just first time driving it

Because the cam and crank sensor work together it cold be out of sync with the cranks sensor or it jsut has to many ohms and won't readright so the pcm would know where to put timing, etc.
