I have a 1997 s10 v6 4.3 2 wheel drive 5 speed manual transmission. I have just replaced the rear ujoint being that it broke. Two days later I had to replace the fan belt being that one of the pulleys froze. Today in 5th gear it was making a grinding noise and this evening it started making the noise in 2nd and 3rd gear and getting no power to really move the car and get the rpm up. It doesn't make the noise in 4th and 5th gear and it is very faint in 1st gear. The drive shaft looks fine and the rear u joint looks fine. What am I dealing with?

Is the transmission oil full and clean? Can you tell aprox where the noise is coming from?

It sounds like it is coming from the driveshaft again. It sounds like a wind up car in all gears but 2 and 3 it grinds in those gears.I haven't checked the transmission fluid but I also do need another oil change as well. I will check the transmission fluid and get back with you. Thank you.

Let me know what you find with the fluid and also, recheck the u-joint you replaced. Make sure it is seated properly and not loose.
