Fuel sending unit

I have to replace my sending unit, the gauge is not working properly
there is a choice CRD or HEN - HER for the harness code. Short of taking the tank out to get the code is there another way? What is the most common code? I believe it is HER but am not sure.

Anyone else know how to find the harness code without dropping the tank?

I've never been asked that question to get parts for that vehicle. The dealer should be able to answer all questions using the VIN#.
